TORIEN CAFFERATA

Torien Cafferata (they/he) is an AuDHD neuroqueer interdisciplinary artist, playwright, performer, director, dramaturge, and educator based in Treaty 6 territory (Saskatoon, Canada). They hold a BFA in Drama from the University of Saskatchewan. As co-Artistic Director of It’s Not A Box Theatre, they feel most at home playing at the intersections between the mad arts, ludology, analogue mixed reality, interaction dramaturgy, immersive scenography, and found spaces.

He thrives on collaborating across disciplines and inviting audiences to become participants, players, and storytellers. This is most broadly seen in their app-guided documentary project, Overhear, which has toured internationally from SummerWorks to the Prague Quadrennial and received the SATAward for Innovation in 2018. Recently he has been bringing more digital game design into his work, such as in the home interactive audio play series ISOLATA and in the live-action sandbox RPG, Play Fail Win.

As an active community member, Torien has served on the Live Five Independent Theatre board since 2018, as President and Dramaturgical Chair of the Saskatchewan Playwrights Centre (2018-2019), and as Host Dramaturge of the Sask Writers Workshop, a free workshop collective for young or emerging writers, since 2015.
